Clinicians now have an interactive, online forum where they can find, share and discuss resources and useful web sites on anxiety, dementia, postpartum depression and other topics relevant to their practices. Part social networking site, part community bulletin board, PsycLINK is a wiki platform "by psychologists, for psychologists," aimed at helping clinicians easily find the information they need to help their patients and improve their practices, said Jeffrey Zimmerman, PhD, who demonstrated PsycLINK on Saturday during APA's 2010 Annual Convention in San Diego.
APA's Presidential Task Force on Advancing Practice developed the new tool, which debuted today for all APA members. More than 150 practitioners have already test-piloted the site and developed its initial content.
"We envision it as a community that will grow over time, and as it grows with contributions from our professional community it's going to increase in value," said Zimmerman. Psychologists can also use PsycLINK to pose questions and receive e-mail updates when members add new content.
APA will be tracking how members use PsycLINK, monitoring the quality of the information that's shared, and surveying users on what works and what doesn't, he added.
